Product Support

The information below is divided into sections.
We recommend that our customer read all sections if possible.

HOW MANY COATS DO I NEED TO APPLY?

We recommend 2 coats as a minimum. This will ensure that the wood has been saturated with oil and that will give you the long-term protection. All coverage figures are based on 2 coats.

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO WAIT BETWEEN COATS?

Depending on product, anything between 20 min. till 3 hours . Read the product datasheet carefully before you start.  The general rule is, if you start seeing dry patches on roughly 20-30% (look towards a natural light source) of the surface, start applying the next coat. Do NOT let the oil dry before applying the next coat. Repeat this until the surface will take no more oil.

WHEN CAN I USE MY FLOOR AGAIN AFTER OILING?

We generally recommend to wait 24 hours after the dry-buffing before you use the floor again. If that is not possible, cover the floor for this period.

CAN I MIX TIMBEREX OIL FINISHES WITH EACH OTHER?

Yes. Just make sure you make a note which mixture you use so you can re-create it if needed. However, Active Stains and Enviro Oil are water-based and cannot be mixed with any oil-based products.

CAN I USE THIS OIL ON MY LACQUERED FLOOR?

No. the oil will lay on top of the lacquer and create a sticky surface. Sanding is required.

I WANT MORE SHEEN TO MY FLOOR. WHAT CAN I DO?

You can buff the floor to a higher sheen, but keep in mind that oils can only be buffed to a certain grade. For extra high sheen, varnishes offer a better solution.   Use Timberex Free, Wax-oil or Hard-wax Oil and dry-buff the surface with a soft white nylon pad on the same spot for a longer period of time.

ARE YOUR PRODUCTS SAFE TO USE?

Yes, our products are very safe to use and you will find that none of our oils carry any warning symbols on the back of the tins. All our products are VOC2010 compliant and EN71 certified for food- and toy-safety. Within 24 hours all smells will have disappeared. Keep the windows open while you work with the oil to speed up this process.

DO I NEED ANY PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR THESE PRODUCTS?

While protective clothing and rubber gloves are generally not necessary for safety reasons, they assist in cleanliness. Read the material safety datasheet for each product carefully before use.

CAN YOUR PRODUCTS SELF COMBUST?

Yes they can in certain circumstances. Simply keep a bucket of water ready for the cloths to soak. As soon as they hit the water, the danger is gone. All our tins carry further information about this. Read them carefully before using any oil.
